I have been working on Tropical Medicine, particularly on arthropod-borne viral diseases that include dengue fever. My research covers from the molecular to the operational levels in disease control and I am assisting global tropical disease programs as a head of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Tropical and Emerging Viral Diseases. In the past, our research group developed a West Nile virus candidate vaccine. And now, I am willing to contribute to develop a vaccine for dengue fever, which is the most important mosquito-borne virus infection in the world.

メッセージ
私はおもに蚊やダニが媒介するウイルス感染症の研究をしています。デング熱はその代表的な疾患ですが，その流行拡大や疾病の重症化にはウイルス特有の生物学的な性状に加えて，自然環境や社会環境の変化など多くの要因が関連しており，熱帯にある開発途上国の健康問題を考えるうえで多くの示唆にとんだ知見がかいまみえます。
将来，グローバルヘルスの分野での活躍が期待される学生の皆さんと一緒に，熱帯病を分子レベルからグローバルレベルまで俯瞰して，深い議論ができることを楽しみにしています。
