Course (MPH)
Nagasaki University's much sought-after "Graduate School of Integrated Global Health" which laid the foundation for Tropical Medicine has been established in 2015.
Global health is beyond simply medicine, medical science and public health. The expertise from many fields are integrated in practice and brought together in an effort to improve global level health disparities.
At the same time, global health plays a role in the formation of the philosophy and social outlook for the 21st century.
In order to obtain a master's degree in public health (MPH), International Health Development Courses encourage students to be active in the following global health areas:

3) Emphasize the view from the side of the patients rather than the service providers,

Course Overview
Overview:
・Duration: Two Years
・Academic degree conferred : Master of Public Health
・Short term field training overseas (2 - 3 weeks)
・Long term practicum overseas (5 - 8 months)
Completion Requirements:
- 28 credits from compulsory modules (28 modules)
- 2 credits from elective modules (2 modules)
- Successful completion of a Master’s Thesis (project report)
- Final examination
Application requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized education institution (university, nursing school, etc.)
- Work experience (in Japan or abroad) or,
- Community service experience (volunteer) or,
- Experience working with organizations such as JOCV (Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers),NGOs, government agencies, or in the private sector (in Japan or abroad).

This module group is designed for students to acquire the necessary knowledge needed to understand global health issues from a community health perspectives.
Social and Behavioral Science Module Group

・Social Science for Research in Global Health
This module group is designed to provide students with a social point of view on health issues.
Health Policies and Management Module Group

・Project /Program Management II (case study) and Social Entrepreneur
This module group is designed so that students can acquire the knowledge needed in order to offer solutions to various global health issues.
Short Term Field Training Overseas
In their first year of studies, all MPH students will participate in a short term field training trip overseas to a developing country. Guided by 2-3 professors, students will visit project sites of various organizations as well as their offices to understand the work they do.
This trip will take 2-3 weeks and is mandatory (2 credits).

Long Term Practicum Overseas
As part of the course, students will be required to complete a long-term practicum (2 credits) as part of their studies.
This is to give students hands-on experience in field work and to conduct research.
The practicum is divided into 2 portions:
1) Internship in a country with an organization of the
student’s choosing (approx. 5 months).
2) Research to gather data in preparation for the
student’s final thesis (approx. 3 months).
Research can take place in the same country as the internship or elsewhere.

Past entrance examinations for the MPH course can be released upon request.
Please note that these documents are all in Japanese and not needed by international applicants as the entrance examination for international applicants consist only of an online interview.
